Student work roadmap

  1. Valid permit
  2. Part-time contract
  3. Payslip
  4. Renewal / post-graduation

Student checklist — before you accept a job

  • Residence permit for studies already issued (not only the D visa).
  • Permit text: shows drept de muncă or equivalent — if missing, ask IGI before starting.
  • Signed part-time CIM contract + registration in Revisal (ask the employer for proof).
  • Hours: stay within the limit on your permit (often 4 h/day — not 8 h full-time).
  • Notify IGI within 30 days of starting or changing employer.
  • Red flags: «cash only», no payslip, undeclared work in bars/restaurants.

Working rights on a study permit

  • No separate work permit for part-time employment linked to student status (IGI source).
  • Mandatory contract: CIM (contract individual de muncă) on a part-time basis.
  • Hour limit: IGI pages cite up to 4 hours/day on some guides and up to 6 hours/day on others — follow the stricter limit on your permit and confirm with IGI.
  • Reporting: Notify IGI within 30 days of starting or changing employment.
  • No full-time during studies on a study permit (unless you change status).

Finding part-time work

  1. Job boards: eJobs.ro, BestJobs, LinkedIn (filter part-time / student).
  2. University: Job fairs, Erasmus office board, campus café/bar.
  3. Common sectors: Customer service (English), IT support, translation, hospitality, delivery (verify contract).
  4. AJOFM — County employment agency programmes and public listings.

Internships (practică / internship)

  • Tripartite agreement — University + company + student; check if paid.
  • Insurance — Accident and liability: ask the company or university.
  • Not undeclared work — Even unpaid internships need written agreements and hour limits.

Tax on employee wages

  1. The employer registers the contract in Revisal (mandatory electronic register).
  2. Each month you receive a payslip with income tax (10%) and CAS/CASS deductions.
  3. Keep payslips for permit renewal and possible ANAF checks.
  4. If you have other income or freelance activity, check Declarația unică obligations on ANAF.
  1. Complete exams and obtain your degree certificate / diplomă.
  2. Ask IGI for an extension up to 9 months for job search after studies (proof of course completion).
  3. Job hunt with an updated permit; full-time work usually requires a status change (work permit / other title).
  4. Do not remain beyond permit validity without renewal or status change.
