Information guide for international students, not individual legal, tax or medical advice. Requirements, amounts and procedures may change: always check the relevant source before acting.

Operational framework

In Denmark citizenship, duration, type of course, address and work produce separate practices. SIRI, municipality, Skattestyrelsen, university and health region do not replace each other: every decision must be verified with the competent authority.

EU citizens over three months

Rule: An Italian citizen can enter and start studies without a visa. If you stay for more than three months, you must ask SIRI for the EU residence document as a student within the applicable deadline, demonstrating registration, sufficient means and health coverage.

What to do: Book SIRI or International Citizen Service, bring a valid document, admission letter, declaration of means and health proof; keep the complete application and decision.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

CPR and address registration

Rule: The EU document does not automatically assign the CPR. After the SIRI document, those who satisfy the registered residence register the address with the municipality; the contract must allow registration and the municipality verifies duration and actual occupancy.

What to do: Before signing, ask for written confirmation that the address is CPR-registrable; bring the contract, EU document and evidence requested by the municipality.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

Short stays

Rule: For stays that do not meet the requirements of the CPR, the student may remain outside the central register despite having a legal stay. Tax personal number, health services and digital identity follow separate paths.

What to do: Do not purchase a fictitious address or confuse a tax number with registration as a resident.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

Non-EU students

Rule: The third-country student must be admitted to a full-time program and obtain a study permit when required. Provider, state program approval, tuition, funding, language and passport impact the outcome.

What to do: Use New to Denmark’s Higher education route, complete biometrics and do not travel relying only on the pending application if you are not eligible to do so.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

Funds and duration

Rule: SIRI publishes a monthly self-sufficiency amount and a limit of months to be documented. Money, scholarship or loan must be actually available and proven in the accepted format; the permit does not exceed the validity of the passport.

What to do: Check the amount on the day you submit your application and do not use temporary movements or modified bank documents.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

MitID and Digital Post

Rule: MitID authenticates the user in public and private services; Digital Post is the legal channel for many communications. CPR, verified identity and activation are separate steps.

What to do: Activate services only on official portals, protect apps and codes, read Digital Post regularly and immediately report a change in number or theft of the device.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

Change of course or status

Rule: Interruption of studies, change of programme, loss of EU base, unauthorized work or incorrect address may affect your stay, SU and services.

What to do: Before the change, ask for written confirmation from the university and competent authority; keep the transcript, attendance and effective date of the change.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

Departure from Denmark

Rule: Those leaving the country must notify their departure when required and coordinate CPR, Digital Post, taxes, healthcare, banking and housing contract.

What to do: Communicate your future address, download decisions and receipts, and maintain secure access to post-departure tax messages.

Operational verification: Keep source, complete document, date, receipt and identity of the competent office; Don’t just rely on a verbal response.

Documentary protocol

Create three files: stay and CPR; home and insurance; work, SU and taxes. Save the version of the page consulted, the submitted package, receipt and complete response. If you change course, job, address or coverage, review all related paperwork before the change.
